 CITY INFORMATION

Prices for PLANOPlano is an upper-middle class suburb that lies a few miles north of Dallas. Located within the Dallas/Fort Worth metropolitan area (the Metroplex), Plano has grown into the ninth largest city in the state of Texas. Plano’s strong economy, quality schools and high standards of living has earned top spots, placing at number 11 on CNN/Money Magazine’s ‘Best Places to Live in the United States in 2006 and voted as the ‘Best Place to Live in the Western United States’ in 2005. With the lowest poverty rates and highest median incomes in the US, Plano is known for being a wealthy community, with the western part of the city being the most affluent.

Home to more than 30 corporate headquarters’, mostly located on Legacy Drive. And with its proximity to the Telecom Corridor, a number of semiconductor and telecommunications companies are located in Plano’s Research and Technology District. Some of companies include: Cadbury Schweppes, Countrywide, Electronic Data Systems, Ericsson, Frito Lay, Infosys Technologies, Insight Enterprises, Metromedia Restaurant Group, PetroTel, JCPenney, Perot Systems, Raytheon, Rent-A-Center, Texas Instruments, Triad Hospitals, and UGS.

Recently, Plano has made a concerted effort to draw retail to the area in an effort to boost sales tax returns. The newly constructed Shops at Legacy features apartments and an Angelika Film Center, while The Shops at Willow Bend is the city's new, upscale mall.

Plano Independent School District serves most of Plano. Due to a massive increase in student enrollment over the past few decades, Plano consists of a unique "high school" system, in which grades 9-10 attend a high school and grades 11-12 attend a senior high. Small portions of Plano are served by the Lewisville Independent School District, Frisco Independent School District, and Allen Independent School District.
